The name «Filon» was in fact derived from the French verb «filer», which here can be translated as «(we) flee». It certainly shows a certain cheek and wit by the crafty Villon/Filon clan.

 

Incidentally, the expression «filer à l'anglaise» is known in English as «to take French leave». So much for the different prejudices.
